Play-by-Post (PbP) is a type of RPG where players and Game Master (GM) take turns writing posts describing their characters' actions, speech and thoughts.

 

I'm Alex - a dedicated game master specialising in play-by-post games. I run and play TTRPGs in various systems. I'm a DnD veteran, but lately I fell in love with narrative first, mechanics later systems, like Blades in the Dark, Heart and Tales from the Loop.

As a busy IT professional by day and an RPG fan by night, I found my solace in PbP games, and set out to share the flexibility to fit RPGs into any busy schedule with fellow busy people.

There are two key rules that I expect both myself and players and myself to follow:

We post daily. This ensures good pace of adventure, rivalling weekly table top RPG sessions. Players must set up default actions for their characters (either static choices or rollable tables) to ensure progress if a player misses their daily post.
No text AI. the fun part of playing-by-post is crafting the story yourself, I fully commit to never using AI for my posts, and strongly encourage players to do so too. I'm happy to use AI-generated images if we need a visual reference.

  • Your character is at the centre - only players' actions shape the story. I let the world to react naturally, not drive the story to predetermined points.
  • Tense action that keeps you on edge - deadly & swift combat, high stakes dialogues and negotiations, maximum freedom for creative approach.
Alex's style of GMing makes it so easy to have an epic RPG encounter on the train to work or on my lunch break. He doesn't rely on heavy exposition but works with players to uncover the world & the situation, and he sure loves a crazy idea from the players!
